The islands Tinharé (Morro de São Paulo) and Boipeba are places of extreme natural beauty with primitive beaches, lagoons and a rich historical patrimony dated from the beginning of the portuguese colonization in Brazil. To protect these atributes and promote a sustentable development of its economical activities (essentially the turism) and to protect its biodiversity, the Government of the State of Bahia has created this APA (Area de Proteção Ambiental / Protected Enviroment Area) on july 15, 1992 to celebrate the International Enviroment Day.
